FREE training is on offer this summer for people who have, or have had problems with drug and alcohol misuse.
A course, called Making Sense of It - Drugs, Alcohol and Health, will run at leisure and community centres across County Durham.
The course is co-ordinated by the North-East Open College Network, working in conjunction with County Durham Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT).
Mandy English, parent support development officer with DAAT, said: "The course will be taught in a user-friendly way with the emphasis on enjoyment, while learning.
"No previous experience or qualifications are necessary and there may be help towards travel and childcare expenses.
"A certificate will be presented at the end of the course from the Open College Network."
DAAT is a partnership of several agencies, including local councils, Durham Police, and the probation and prison services. The project has received funding from regional development agency One NorthEast.
Priority for places on the course will be given to anyone who is, or who has lived with, someone enduring difficulties with drug and alcohol misuse.
Venues and times will be confirmed once final numbers are agreed, but the proposed locations for sessions are: Peterlee and Spennymoor leisure centres; the Glebe Centre, Murton; Tow Law and South Stanley community centres; Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre, The Louisa Centre, Stanley; The Jersey Farm, near Barnard Castle, and The Four Clocks, in Bishop Auckland.
