FARMER Brian Maud has taken over as chairman of Ryedale District Council.
Councillor Maud, who represents Rillington where he farms, has taken over from Councillor Brian Cottam, whose last duty in office was to dedicate a seat to former councillor Alan Farnaby, who died earlier this year.
Councillor Maud is married to Susan and has three sons and one grandson.
He farms a 300-acre arable farm in Rillington and has been involved in local government for almost 20 years.
He first became a Ryedale district councillor in 1985, but resigned in 1989 to devote more time to the farm.
He rejoined the council at an election in 1999 and is an independent representative.
Malton councillor Lindsey Burr has been appointed as vice-chairman
