CITY centre businesses are being urged to adopt a town crier for a weekend.
As part of Durham's Summer Festival weekend, in July, the city is hosting the National Town Crier Championship.
About 25 town criers have signed up to take part in the event, which culminates at Durham Town Hall.
Organisers want the town criers to spread the word on the virtues of Durham when they return home.
Durham City Forum, which is running the competition, is asking traders and companies to sponsor a crier to make their visit more welcoming.
Offers can be made to Colin Wilkes, on 0191- 383 0597.
