A DRIVE to improve the health of people in Hartlepool by transforming their eating habits has received a boost.
A third healthy food co-operative has been set up, this time at the Major Cooper Court sheltered housing complex, in Seaton Carew.
Officers from Hartlepool Borough Council are promoting the creation of healthy food co-operatives across the town to try to increase residents consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables.
The initiative is being organised by the council's environmental standards section with financial support from the Hartlepool Health Action Zone.
Two other co-ops have been operating successfully on the town's Central Estate for some time.
The co-op has been set up in the form of a shop, with residents ordering foodstuffs that are then bought by shopper Lesley Lowe and distributed every Wednesday.
For further information, contact Kim Baines, the council's healthy food co-ordinator, on (01429) 284261.
