CAMPAIGNERS raising funds for research into a cure for the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma will stage an event with a Geordie flavour to help meet their target.
Chris Knighton, from Wallsend, North Tyneside, set up the the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund after her husband died from the disease in May 2000.
Mrs Knighton, with other volunteers whose lives have been affected by the disease, have raised £70,000 towards their £100,000 target.
A second anniversary fundraising dinner is to be held at the George Washington Hotel, in Washington, Wearside, on Friday.
The food will have a distinct Geordie flavour, with dishes such as mince and Broon Ale dumpling on the menu.
Afterwards, guests will have the opportunity to bid in a charity auction for a set of first edition World Cup stamps, autographed by Alan Shearer, or a signed Newcastle Falcons strip.
The next fundraising event is the Lung Run, on Saturday, June 19.
For more information or to book tickets call Mrs Knighton on 0191-263 7386.
