ACTION to give first-time buyers a chance to get on the property ladder amid sky-high house prices in North Yorkshire have been kick started with a £7.5m boost.
Prices have outstripped rises in other areas, sparking the formation of a Golden Triangle Partnership in an attempt to help initial homes buyers.
It was originally formed by housing and planning professionals from councils in York, Harrogate and Leeds.
Following its expansion to include government representatives, the partnership has made a successful bid for funding from the Regional Housing Board totalling £7.5m over five years.
This figures should also attract an equivalent amount of funding from the private sector.
The cash boost will start next year, piloting incentives for first time buyers and workers key to local economies.
The Golden Triangle, which covers the northern part of Leeds, as well as Harrogate and York, and a string of upmarket villages between, has now made a bid for more cash.
A spokesman for Harrogate Borough Council said the latest bid was for Housing Corporation Innovation and Good Practice Grant. This would pilot a range of other initiatives to help local people on lower incomes access the housing market in the area.
