A Roman Catholic Bishop almost missed his enthronement ceremony after he was caught ticketless in front of hundreds of wellwishes.
The Right Reverend Kevin Dunn, Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle, was caught empty-handed at Saint Mary's Cathedral, Newcastle.
Security, organised by police and the Corps of Commissionaires, was tight at the ceremony and those on the door allowed only ticket-holders into the cathedral.
Fortunately, he was able to convince the guards he was the main guest and took his place to became the 12th Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle.
Outgoing bishop the Right Reverend Ambrose Griffiths led the congratulations with the kiss of peace after he anointed his successor and presented him with a book of the Gospels, a copy of St Cuthbert's cross and ring, a mitre and pastoral staff.
The audience included Catholic leaders from across the country and other Christian leaders in the region.
Bishop Dunn pledged to "keep watch over the whole flock" before he was presented with bread and wine by his mother, sisters and brothers.
The ceremony ended after Bishop Dunn blessed the congregation and was presented with a book of messages from children in the diocese.
