A NEWLY-formed chorus will be making its stage debut at the end of this month in a performance of the Handel opera Hercules.
The Swaledale Festival Chorus is made up of 15 local singers and has been assembled for the production, at Richmond's Georgian Theatre Royal, on Monday.
Appearing with them will be professional musicians from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.
The mixed group has been rehearsing since the beginning of last month under the supervision of Richmond teacher Carol Gedye.
They have also had a weekend of rehearsals with the musical director of the show, Andrew Wilson-Dickson.
Swaledale Festival director Philip Parr said: "The creation of a festival chorus presents a unique opportunity for people from local groups to work with professional musicians on this type of project.
"We hope this innovation will become an integral part of future festivals."
The Swaledale Festival runs from tomorrow until June 13.
