PEOPLE are being asked to raid their photograph albums as Bishop Auckland plans a nostalgia trip.
Bishop Auckland's Town Centre Forum is appealing for memorabilia from the 1940s to help with a month of events being planned to celebrate the decade.
The forum has joined forces with Groundwork West Durham to hold an exhibition of 1940s memorabilia in the Discovery Centre, Market Place, in July.
Town centre manager Derek Toon said: "The exhibition needs the help of the people from the town. We are looking for anything from the Forties that people would be prepared to loan us for the exhibition.
"We would like anything to do with the period such as magazines, pictures, photographs, household goods, product packages - anything that shows what life was like in Bishop Auckland in the Forties.
"Ladies might have a Forties dress in the back of the wardrobe, and men may have kept their father's demob suit.''
As well as the exhibition there will be a display of military vehicles in the town centre on Saturday, July 24, with members of the Military Trust and the North East Military Vehicle Club. The Newgate Centre will play music from the era.
The celebration will end with a military vehicle and militaria show at Harperley prisoner of war camp on Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and August 1. There will also be a Forties dance at the camp on Saturday, July 31.
