THREE Seaham men have taken on civic leadership roles, marking what could be a first for the town.
Near neighbours and district councillors Bruce Burn and Charlie Walker have been selected for two of the senior posts.
Councillor Burn, who represents the Seaham North ward, has become the leader of the District of Easington Council, while Coun Walker, who represents the Dawdon area, has become Mayor of Seaham.
Rounding off civic successes is Durham County Council member Alan Fenwick, who represents Seaham on the authority, and has taken over as chairman.
An Easington council spokeswoman said: "As civic leaders, all three will provide fair and visible community and ceremonial leadership and act as representatives for their town, district and county at local, regional and national levels."
Coun Walker said: "This is probably the first time that three people who live within streets of each other have held such prominent civic roles."
Coun Burn and Coun Fenwick issued a joint statement that said: "We are all very proud to be taking up our new positions and are looking forward to a busy year ahead."
