THE power of the so-called grey pound has encouraged train operator GNER to showcase its latest on-board wireless Internet technology.
GNER is the first UK rail operator to offer wi-fi Internet access on its trains.
It is hoping more over-50s will take advantage of the service.
The rail operator hosted an introductory session demonstrating the technology to travellers on one of its wi-fi-equipped trains between York and London King's Cross.
Jason Clamp, GNER information technology expert, was on hand to guide travellers through the service.
GNER spokesman John Gelson said: "It is fascinating to watch the surprise on the faces of first-time users in particular as they surf the Internet on the move. Wireless Internet on our trains has the potential to turn train time into more productive working time and more enjoyable leisure time."
