A DARLINGTON school has been recognised for the quality of its work in the arts.
Hummersknott School and Language College received the Artsmark accolade from the Arts Council.
As well as taking part in art, music, expressive arts and drama lessons, students set up an annual arts week initiative. It involved the youngsters working with dancers, artists and musicians to produce performances and work to exhibit.
Next year, the week will involve students from Germany, Belgium and Bulgaria sharing their folk heritage with Hummersknott students.
Concerts, house music festivals and arts days have contributed towards the award.
The school is also looking to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year and National Lottery funding has been secured to bring a group of Kathakali dancers from India to perform for the community and run workshops in school.
Headteacher Pat Howarth said: "I am delighted that the Arts Council has recognised Hummersknott School's commitment to the arts and the opportunities we provide for our students to work with local, national and international artists."
