Planet Snooker Premier League: The top break in the league rose to 133 when Mike Dunn of Hartlepool made a total clearance against Chris West at Whitley Bay.
This beats the 125 break of Michael Rhodes of Durham set only a week ago.
Both West and Dunn began slowly with both players missing chances in the first frame. The position of the balls did not lend themselves to a big break but Dunn edged through to win by 32 points. Dunn settled in the second, which he took with a 64 break, but West came back early in the third and looked to be on a for a big break but broke down on 38 and Dunn hit an 85 reply. The fourth frame brought the magnificent 133 and the interval.
Obviously with the thoughts of the big break against him, West conceded the fifth after Dunn made a 54 break even though he was only 48 behind with a possible 67 remaining. West showed his quality in the sixth when he took advantage of Dunn's early foul on the pink to build a well-constructed break of 106. Dunn took the final frame with a 34 break to win 6-1.
Andy Craig of Stanley visited Michael Rhodes of Durham immediately after his holidays and found the break had done him good as he came back from losing the first frame to compile his best break in the league when he took the second with a 74 clearance. Rhodes restored his lead in the third with a 40 break but Craig again made a late run in the fourth with a winning 55 clearance.
Craig again came late in the fifth and took the pink and black to win by 13 points, but Rhodes set up the decider by winning the next with a 77 break. In the tactical decider, the wider experience of Rhodes showed through as he edged to victory.
Anthony Parsons made a good home win over Paul Davison of Spennymoor at Ormesby Institute. The first frame went to Parson with a 40 break but Davison levelled with a 40 break in the second. Consistency in the end game gave Parsons the next two frames, both won by around 20 points.
Davison fired in a 96 break immediately after the interval and the put in a seemingly 52 winning break but Parsons fought back and snatched the point with a 45 break. Boosted by this rather unexpected success, Parsons completed a 5-2 win with a 51 break in the final frame.
David Craggs of Tow Law entertained the recently crowned English Amateur champion, David Lilley from Hebburn. The packed Tow Law Workingmen's Club expected fireworks as both players have been in fine form recently. Lilley set the tone when he took advantage of a Craggs missed red to the middle to complete a 96 clearance.
Lilley opened with a 30 in the second but broke down on an easy corner pocket red. Craggs made 22 but then just failed to break the pack of the last five reds. A scrappy encounter followed until Lilley doubles the final red and laid a tight snooker on the yellow to win. An opening break of 26 followed by 65 pulled one back for Craggs. Fouls cost Craggs the fourth for when he was 43 ahead he was called for three misses and later potted the pink whilst playing the green.
Lilley took the next two after the interval, making a 69 break in the sixth before Craggs produced his true form to knock in a 79 to take the final frame.
Michael Rhodes entertained Michael Rudd of Hartlepool at Durham Snooker Centre in a re-arranged match, which proved the fastest to date in the league as the seven frames lasted little over an hour. Rhodes put in breaks of 101, 45 and 111 to take all even frames and move to the top of the table.
