Darlington Allstars: The Under-12s took on Nunthorpe in the League Cup Final and started well by taking an early lead with an opportunist goal from Nick Stockport.
Nunthorpe fought back quickly to equalise making it 1-1 but once again the Allstars responded with a Jack Johns near post goal. However, in an end to end first half, Nunthorpe eqaulised again.
In the second half both teams created chances but not goals were forthcoming so the match went into extra time with some tremendous football being played and the Allstars took the runaway Division One champions all the way a penalty shoot-out.
Unfortunately for the Allstars they tried hard but lost out 5-4. This was an excellent advertisement for junior league football with both sides playing to the highest standard. making the final a greatly contested affair.
Teesside league officials gave both squads credit for playing fantastic football in red hot conditions. Congratulations to Nunthorpe but there is always next year for the Allstars.
The whole squad played with true commitment and team spirit but man of the match was Matthew Carnelley who was enjoying his final game for the Allstars before moving to Middlesbrough FC academy.
