Motorists who continue to flout the law with their careless parking at MetroCentre will be risking penalties - no matter what time of the day or night.
Thanks to CCTV technology Northumbria Police will be able to take action even if no officers are present when an offence is committed.
Last week officers at Gateshead warned how action would be taken if motorists continued to stop on the roundabout near the bus station at Scotswood View to drop off and pick up shoppers.
Not only are the motorists stopping on a roundabout junction they are also stopping on double yellow lines.
Sergeant Alan Parks of Gateshead police, who is based at MetroCentre police office, said: " There has been an improvement but people are still using the area as a collection point and although we have been very lucky not to have had any serious accidents this cannot continue.
" Even if no officer is present CCTV footage can be used to trace the drivers and deliver the tickets through the post."
Both £30 fixed penalty tickets for obstruction and £60 and three penalty points for dangerous driving have been given. If there was a crash the matter could ultimately lead to prosecution.
