A LITERARY festival dedicated to new writers will take place in the region next month.
Fresh Fiction will be held in Newcastle's Live Theatre and city library from June 21 to 27.
It has been organised by New Writing North and aims to celebrate first novels by North-East writers.
There will be readings, debates and discussions, plus a novel hospital for struggling writers, run by Charles Fernyhough, author of The Auctioneer.
This will be a week-long course of treatment for aspiring writers and their novels-in-progress.
The clinic will include evaluation of ideas, improvement of self-editing, effective synopses and covering letter writing, and crucially, marketing both writer and novel.
Agent Johnny Geller, from the Curtis Brown Agency, will talk on the current market conditions for publishing a first novel and Jeremy Sheldon and Julia Bell, of the Literary Consultancy, will advise what to do before even approaching a publisher.
The festival climax will be the launch of two new works by Newcastle-based writers Penny Sumner and Andrew Crumey.
