A SCIENCE facility has doubled in size to cope with the demand for its award-winning life-science research and biotechnology products.
Perbio Science's plant, in Cramlington, Northumberland has opened a £7m extension that will create 42 jobs over the next 18 months.
The investment by the company, and a £250,000 Regional Selective Assistance grant from regional development agency One NorthEast, will also guarantee the futures of 39 employees.
Perbio, a subsidiary of Fisher Scientific International, has had a presence in the North-East for the past decade and said the local labour force, assistance from One NorthEast and local councils and good transport infrastructure had been the driving forces behind the latest investment.
The 2,500sq ft building will increase capacity for manufacturing HyClone cell-culture products, such as cell-nutrition technologies, process supplements, sterile-liquid handling and production systems.
