OSCA, a European eagle owl, took a keen interest in the proceedings as artist Steve Blaylock made the finishing touches to his latest creation.
Mr Blaylock, from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, took Osca to Newby Hall, near Ripon, where an exhibition of contemporary sculpture opens on Tuesday.
He is among artists, many of international repute, who are taking part in the show, sponsored by Christie's.
This is the fourth year that Newby has exhibited a selection of contemporary sculptures in the grounds, with about 60 exhibits.
The exhibition features a diverse mix of figurative and abstract work in bronze, wood, stone, glass and steel, displayed throughout the historic woodland and the 25 acres of gardens for which Newby Hall is famous.
The sculpture park will be open from Tuesday until September 26, daily except Mondays - but including bank holiday and school holiday Mondays - from 11am to 5.30pm.
