Sunderland have parted company with Academy Director Kees Zwamborn as they continue to plan for a second season in the First Division.
Zwamborn, who has been with the Black Cats for 15 months, will leave by mutual consent after playing a major role in the development of the club's new Academy set-up.
The former Ajax coach oversaw the acquisition and development of young players at the Academy of Light but, following Sunderland's failure to win promotion to the Premiership, the club are having to restructure their Academy operation.
Responsibility for youth development will now pass to manager Mick McCarthy, although the club's coaching staff will continue to have a considerable input.
"Kees has done a superb job in transforming and modernising our Academy operations," said vice chairman John Fickling.
"He has put in place all the necessary systems and processes for us to make best use of our world-class Academy facilities.
"However, we appointed Kees as a Premiership club with the associated financial resources, but sadly circumstances have changed and that is no longer the case.
"In the current climate, there is a need to reduce costs while maintaining a quality Academy operation and this is why we have regrettably agreed to part company."
Free Sunderland defender Patrick Collins has signed a two-year deal with Sheffield Wednesday.
