HOCKEY and rugby players moved a step closer to South Africa by holding a fashion show.
The 15 girls and 26 boys from Barnard Castle School will travel to Cape Town and Durban at the end of term to compete in matches.
The fashion show, held in the school, was organised by PE teacher Tanya Broadbent.
The models included children from Barnard Castle senior and preparatory schools.
Ms Broadbent said: "It was a great success. Far more people came than we expected and we raised £834 from ticket sales and the raffle.
"We have held a number of different events aimed at attracting different parents and people from Barnard Castle.
"All the money we have raised will help reduce the amount the children have to pay themselves to take part in the tour to South Africa."
Six members of staff will accompany the students when they leave on July 25.
