A MUSICIAN from Teesside won £25,000 on the National Lottery show thanks to North-East cartoon legend Andy Capp.
Louis Spence, 55, took part in the In It To Win It quiz at the weekend, live on BBC1, before the first triple rollover Lottery draw.
Watched in the studio by two fellow members of the band The Fabuloso Brothers, Mr Spence told host Dale Winton he would like to win £5,000 to buy a guitar and take singing lessons.
But as the tension mounted before the Lottery draw to win £22.2m, Mr Spence managed to answer all his multiple choice questions correctly.
For every right answer given, the amount of money available for him and his fellow contestants to win increased by £5,000.
At the end of the show there was £75,000 up for grabs, to be shared among Mr Spence and two female contestants.
To win his share of the money, Mr Spence was asked which cartoon strip was created by Reg Smythe - who came from Hartlepool.
A grinning Mr Spence revealed he lived only nine miles away from Reg's home town before giving the answer Andy Capp - and pocketing the prize money.
Following Mr Spence's win, the Lottery draw took place and six winners shared the UK's biggest jackpot.
Each of the winners will get an estimated £3,693,086 for matching all six balls.
