Two men were arrested following the murder of a man in a seaside town.
Police were called to a disturbance at a residential tower block in a quiet corner of Whitley Bay on Monday night.
A 43-year-old, who is not thought to have lived there, was found with a number of stab wounds shortly after 10.20pm.
It is understood when police arrived, a witness told them a man was seen running away from the scene.
Detectives later arrested two men in connection with the murder inquiry and they are being questioned at North Shields police station. A Northumbria police spokesman said: "Police attended Beacon House following reports of a disturbance.
"On arrival a 43-year-old man was found with fatal stab wounds.
"A police investigation has started and a post mortem will take place at North Tyneside General Hospital.
"Two men have been arrested and are currently detained at North Shields police station."
