A RACE circuit will host an important stock car competition in the 50th anniversary year of the sport.
It was 50 years ago, at the now demolished White City stadium, in London, that stock car racing made its debut in the UK.
This year, Barford Raceway, near Barnard Castle, County Durham, has been selected to host the Formula 2 consolation world semi-final.
The racing will take place on Saturday, September 11, at 6.30pm, followed the day after by the Formula 2 Stock Car Championship of the World final, from 1pm.
Barford is known throughout the country and the world final is expected to produce some of the finest stock car racing ever seen there.
Drivers come from all over the world to race at Barford, including the world champion, Barry Goldin, and Scottish champion Gordon Moodie.
Many of the North-East drivers, whose home track is Barford, will compete in the qualifying rounds to gain points for a place on the final grid.
The next meeting at Barford Raceway is at 2pm on Sunday. News and fixture details can be found at www. neoms.co.uk
