THE sporting achievements of youngsters in Sedgefield borough have been recognised.
Councillor John Robinson, Sedgefield Borough Council's cabinet member for leisure services, met some of the borough's top young sports stars to hear of their accomplishments.
Among them were brothers Scott and George Carpenter, from Tudhoe.
Scott, 15, trains at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre for its water polo team. He has 20 caps for the Great Britain under-20s team and will be going to Malta later this year to compete in the European Championships.
His brother George, 18, has been selected to train with Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club. He intends to continue training while attending Newcastle University.
Chris Pennock, 16, started playing football ten years ago at Spennymoor Leisure Centre and has played at local and county level. He also has a scholarship with Middlesbrough Football Club.
Hayley Robson and Leonni Jennison train a minimum of six times a week at Spennymoor Leisure Centre for the South Durham Gymnastics Club.
Hayley, 13, has qualified as reserve for the junior European championships in Amsterdam and is a member of Great Britain junior squad.
Leonni has also competed for Great Britain in Holland and the Czech Republic.
Both girls are in intensive training for the junior British championships in Guildford, Surrey, which will take place next month.
