VOLUNTEERS are needed to help survey the state of the North-East bumblebee population during an event at a nature reserve.
Durham Wildlife Trust will stage Bumblebee Saturday at its Rainton Meadows headquarters, near Houghton-le-Spring, on June 19.
The aim is to try to assess the health of the local bumblebee population.
There will be nest hunts for older visitors, supervised by the trust's conservation manager, Terry Coult.
Younger participants can take part in bumblebee and bug hunts and games.
The event, staged as part of National Insect Week, begins at 1.30pm and is free.
All are welcome but children must be accompanied by an adult.
Booking is essential on 0191-584 3112.
