COUNCIL worker Colin Cartwright is preparing to visit one of the wonders of the world - but his trip will be far from a holiday.
The Darlington Borough Council finance officer will be trekking along a 100km stretch of the Great Wall of China to raise money for a cancer charity.
The keen walker is hoping that sponsors will help him to raise £10,000 for Maggie's Centres, an organisation providing support for cancer sufferers and their families.
Mr Cartwright, who will tackle the daunting challenge in October with a colleague, Peter Eckels, said: "I like to get out walking most weekends if I can.
"I have a three-year-old daughter so I'm used to carrying a weight around, but it will be climbing and walking in the 35 degree heat and 80 per cent humidity that will be the challenge."
Anyone wishing to sponsor Mr Cartwright can contact him on (01325) 388064 or 07790 762353.
