A 14-year-old boy who needed hospital treatment after he was shot in the leg, may have been shot at by two people on a motorbike.
The teenager was walking across a public park area, between Marske High Street, in east Cleveland, and the town's football ground, at about 7.30pm on Thursday when he was struck in the front of his left thigh.
The pellet, from a point 22 airgun, lodged in the youngster's leg.
After he was shot, the boy saw a light coloured motocross style motorcycle driving away from the park area towards Meadow Road.
The bike was carrying two people dressed in dark clothing and dark helmets.
Police say it is not known if the riders were in any way connected to the incident.
The boy, who was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, needed six stitches after the pellet was removed.
Anyone with information, or who knows of anyone using air rifles in the vicinity, is asked to contact PC Andy Simpson at Redcar police on (01642) 302626
