A DELIVERY man died when he was run over by his own van.
He was delivering wet fish in St Mary's Close, Shincliffe Village, near Durham City, on Tuesday afternoon when the Mercedes van rolled over him while he was standing behind it.
Police named him as Peter John Michael Carson, 41, of Westward Ho, near Grimbsy.
A spokesman said: "He was a regular visitor to Shincliffe and made fish deliveries most weeks to customers in St Mary's Close and, we gather, had done so for many years.
"It seems Mr Carson had parked his Mercedes Vito van on an incline and, for some reason, not fully applied the handbrake. As he has been at the rear of the vehicle it has rolled backwards and over him, causing fatal injuries.''
The North Durham Coroner, Andrew Tweddle, has been informed.
