PENSIONER Doreen Cummings will put a new bus service into gear on Monday.
Mrs Cummings, 82, a member of Esh Parish Council, will launch the South Derwentside Link 767 service.
The service, between Stanley and Consett, started last year as a six-month pilot in response to community needs.
It was so successful, Durham County Council funded its extension over the winter months using the Rural Bus Grant and its own Rural Bus Challenge fund.
From next week, it will include Langley Park via Eastern Avenue, East Clere and Esh Village, along with an extra journey added on Thursdays and Fridays.
It follows the parish council's success in gaining a Countryside Agency Parish Transport Grant.
The 767 service, which is operated by Stanley Buses under contract to the county council, is the only direct link between Langley Park and Consett.
