A BUSINESSMAN is hoping he can rent the walls of a covered walkway to use as advertising space.
Hush Leisure managing director Riaz Hameed wants to advertise his nightclub on the walkway, which has been put up under Middlesbrough Town Hall clock tower to protect pedestrians and motorists while stonemasons work above.
Hush Leisure recently converted the Ayresome Park pub, in Middlesbrough's Albert Road, into a vodka bar and nightclub. The advertising scheme would earn the council £3,240.
The Middlesbrough Town Centre Company, which has offices in the Centre North East, opposite the clock tower, has come up with an alternative scheme - to spend £6,500 on covering the walls of the covered walkway with the story of the restoration works, told in cartoon form.
Councillors are expected to make a decision on whether to back the advertising scheme or the story of the restoration when they meet today.
