Byers Green: Byers Green Bees Under-10s won the Beamish and East Stanley Mini Soccer Tournament on May 16 by beating South Tyneside in the final.
After going seven games in the competition unbeaten and conceding only one goal along the way it was well deserved and thanks goes to the Beamish and East Stanley Club who organised a great day for everyone who participated.
A tremendous end to their small sided careers, the team is now looking forward to 11 a side football in next season's RFYL Premier Division, one of the best leagues in the North-East.
* Byers Green Youth FC will have teams next season at Under-8s, Under-9s, Under-10s, Under-11s, Under-12s, Under-13s, Under-14s, Under-15s and Under-18s. Anyone interested in joining should contact Peter Storey (01388) 663409 for more details about individual teams.
Byers Green under 17's just failed in their attempt to complete a Russell Foster Youth League and Cup double when they went down 2-1 to a last minute goal against Hilda Park in the League Cup final played at Washington Nissan. In an even first half with very few chances Hilda Park took the lead after 25 mins with a hotly disputed penalty. After the break Byers took the game to their opponents and deservedly equalised on 55 mins through a left foot drive from Daniel Gibson. Marc Costello was inches away with a 20 yard screamer with the keeper well beaten. The Green were now on top but that changed when they reduced to ten men with 15minutes left. Tom Fothergill was shown his second yellow card for a foul when it was clear to most people that he had played the ball first. Byers battled in vain and conceded a goal with the last kick of the game, a great run and cross down the right was met with a thumping header into the top left corner of the net giving the keeper no chance. Byers had four goal attempts cleared off the line and clearly it was just not their day. The lads were not downhearted for long as they were presented with the premier league championship trophy after the game. In a fantastic season they were undefeated in the league and this was only their second defeat all season, the other coming in a 1-0 reverse in the last eight of the under 18s County Cup. Praise must go to the players and manager John Heslop for a fabulous achievement with a squad of only 14 players. A special thanks to the players parents for their support throughout the season.
Norton & Stockton Ancients
Norton & Stockton Ancients Under 13b's have had a fantastic first season. The boys are pictured with the Invitation Challenge Cup, League Cup, Cornwall Cup, Kader Cup and South Park Cup. Shortly after this photograph they added the South Park 2004 Cup to their collection. Norton's ethos isn't about winning trophies, it's about encouraging boys and girls to play football, and providing opportunities for youngsters to enjoy themselves in a safe, friendly environment. That said, when teams are happy and settled and players are developing in such an environment, trophies come along sometimes - as Norton found at the recent TJFA Cup Final day, when they had the most teams represented thorughout the age groups. A big thanks from U13b players, coaches and parents to the Norton club for providing such a good platform.
South Park FC Tournament - Saturday May 29th - Under 13's
Norton & Stockton U13b won the enjoyable South Park tournament for the third year in succession. In traditional style they fell behind in the first game against Whitby Town despite being well on top, and went on to draw 1-1. In the second game against Redcar, Norton were strong and ran out 1-0 winners, and in the last group game the lads were up against their old mates Whinney Banks. Despite an excellent performance by Banks' guest player, Norton were strong all over the pitch and four Cooky goals ensured a 4-2 victory, seven points enough to win the group. In the semi final Leven were beaten 1-0, and a tight final saw Norton beat Redcar Town 4-3 on penalties, 'keeper Josh Edon in his usual reliable form.

Cleveland B 0, Spraire Lasses 5
Spraire Lasses had most of the play throughout this match and although Cleveland B upped the tempo towards the end of the first half, they were unable to bag a goal. At half time the score stood at 4-0. The second half was harder with Spraire Lasses playing against the wind. An excellent pass by Becks Webber gave Anna Young the opportunity to score her second hat trick of the day.
