Castle Eden Under 13s and Under 15s both put up brave fights in the weekend's cup matches but they were not enough to take them into the next round of the Fred Foster Cup or the Alf Armes Cup.
Under 13s played Silksworth away. Castle Eden batted first and put on a very impressive show of 111. Keith Bailey ran up 21, but the middle order batsman put in an excellent performance with Ross Kirtley running up 34 not out and then Callum Harding recorded a convincing 21not out.
The excitement carried on when Castle Eden were fielding.
The game hung on the final two balls of the 20 over match with Silksworth needing three runs from the last two balls.
Their batsman hit a four to take them into the final of the Fred Foster Cup. Good bowling performances from Eden's Martin Dunn with four overs, one maiden, two wickets for seven runs, Callum Harding four overs, two wickets for 33 runs.
Under 15s played Houghton away in the Alf Armes Cup on Friday night. Houghton batted first putting on 109 for two wickets for Castle Eden to chase.
The figures for the two wicket takers were Callum Harding four overs one wicket for 21 runs and Ross Kirtley four overs one wicket for 18 runs. However, Castle Eden could not get their run rate going.
Batsmen, Keith Bailey 17, Jonathon Malkin 29, Christopher Freeman 29 not out and Mark Grufferty four not out put in good performances but it wasn't enough to take Castle Eden into the next round.
