David Watson of Shildon Amateur Boxing Club won his junior ABA final at Huddersfield on Saturday, May 30 after gaining a unanimous points decision over his opponent.
David, who has just reached 16 years of age, was fighting in the 57 kilos division and this was his first ABA final.
David will now represent England in the Four-Nations championships, which take place in Ireland this month. Shildon ABC coach John Heighington said: "David's a classy boxer and has represented Shildon in five finals winning two of them and losing the other three by just one point. That's how good he is."
John added: "The club has also been doing well in other divisions as 15-year-old Adam Fletcher, who fights in the 63.5 kilos division, came back from Russia two weeks ago with a bronze medal after representing England in the 12-Nations championships. Everyone thought Adam had won and there was an official complaint. However, he was so impressive that he will represent England in the World championships in America later this months. Adam won a gold medal in Finland in the Four-Nations as did John Thomas, another 15-year-old, who fights in the under 81 kilos division. All three are fantastic fighters and we wish them all the best of luck."
