THE fourth round of the Guisborough and District Motor Club's summer series attracted an entry of 100 riders to Wayworth Farm, Commondale.
The old quarry workings, plus huge rock outcrops, proved a trials rider's dream.
Clerk of course Howard Watson put on a ten-section, three-lap course which would take the odd mark or two and he got it somewhere near.
Karl Dodderidge, back after a six-week lay-off, proceeded to make every section appear like a main road, apart from Andy Metcalfe's section seven, which claimed his solitary dab of the night.
The climb over two rock steps, with a tight drop off right into an awkward jumble of rocks, took marks off the entire entry in the expert and inter classes, with only Gary Collinson and Tim Peace matching Dodderidge for a dab.
Collinson, losing a couple of stray marks on the awkward rock steps of section five, and Peace, casting four away on the relatively easy rock climb of section two, tried their hardest all night, but could never match his sheer consistency.
In the inter class, the competition between Russ and Lance Harland and Stewart Houlston is beginning to push them further and further up the results, with Russ Harland coming out top of the inters due to his better ride on section five, losing only six marks compared with his brother's 13.
Clubman A winner Darren Johnson put in an excellent ride on his old SWM, losing only ten marks.
Section two, a double rock step with hardly a bike length between, proved tricky, but Johnson and his nearest challenger Chris Banks cleaned it every lap.
Jeremy Saffin came to grief on this section and was forced to retire.
The jump across the rocks at the end of section three was expected to take marks off the clubmen A and it did, Johnson losing three dabs and Banks clipping a flag and chalking up a five.
John Pattinson continued his winning ways by just the odd mark from Steve Ward by his superior ride on the dreaded rocks of section six.
In the youths, Carl Kirkbride and Chris Barnfather continue to impress, posting scores well comparable with the expert class.
A mention also for C class rider Jack Robson, who refused to be beaten in his first trial and gained a finish in what was a very hard event for the young ones.
