Darlington Building Society NYSD League: History will be made today when Great Ayton meet Guisborough in the first ever top-flight league game between the clubs.

And there is additional interest since father and son Dave and Stephen Pennock will be in opposition, as will the three Murray brothers, while the Doyle brothers will be playing for Great Ayton.

It was 60 years ago that Great Ayton briefly flirted with the top flight, and since gaining promotion at the end of last season they have found life difficult in the premier division.

They are the only team yet to win and could find it difficult against three-times champions Guisborough, who are now fifth top following an indifferent start.

But skipper Dave Pennock is determined to retain Ayton's new found status.

"It is a whole new ball game and we have not found it easy.

"But all the lads are determined to give it our best shot and although we have yet to win, we have lost just once in eight outings," declared Dave, who will be up against his son, Stephen.

Dave played 20 years at Guisborough before moving back to Ayton just a few seasons ago.

"I had my time at the top and thought I would go back to Ayton and try to help them along," he said.

"Stephen was playing for the club at the time, but, like me more than 20 years ago, he fancied a go with Guisborough."

Colin Murray, meanwhile, will line up against Chris and Graham, who are named in the Guisborough side, and in yet another twist, Anthony and John Paul Doyle will play for Ayton.

The home side cannot call upon Jonathan Grainge or Noel Collings, so Mark Bashford will take over behind the wicket and Henry Blackett plays his second game of the campaign.

The Yorkshire U15 player has been involved in schools cricket so far, but is immediately recalled to the Ayton line-up.

Guisborough, attempting to win the title for the fourth consecutive season, are delighted to have Johnny May back in their batting line-up.

He has missed four matches through injury and his returned could not be more timely since Saul Clifford is ruled out.

Graham Wrightson is again absent with a groin injury, so Chris Trillo continues behind the wicket.

Northallerton enjoy a ten-point lead at the top ahead of their visit to Hartlepool, where they line up Ian Place for Martin Dennis. Pool welcome the return from holiday of Paul Gough and Danny Shurmer also plays, with Jack Wilkinson and Matthew Richardson making way.

Darlington face a difficult test against Bishop Auckland at Kingsway, with Richard Biddle and David Alderson coming in for Duncan Johnson and Keith Barker.

Bishops, who lost for the first time on Monday, have a doubt surrounding Stuart Morgan who has a shoulder injury.

Jonathan Fudge, having completed his studies at university, has returned to his home in Norwich, but another student, Richard Partington, is available.

Saltburn have climbed into second position and an interesting game is in prospect at Richmondshire, who have lost just once.

The Seasiders are more than happy to rely on an unchanged line-up and Richmond too are expected to name a strong side.

Redcar are at full strength for the visit of Marske, whose professional Rob Nichol scored two centuries last weekend.

With Richie Rennard missing, Marske will be captained by Neil Coverdale and Ben Walker, having returned from holiday, wins an immediate recall.

Martin Ball resumes the leadership of Middlesbrough and Guy Whatmore and Darren Birkett are also named in a strong line-up against Darlington RA at Acklam Park.

Lee Roberts cannot play because of work commitments and Chris Murdoch and Andy Taylor revert to Boro's second XI.

RA, who are in the top half of the table, name the same side.

Mark Cushlow and Anthony Grey take over from Graham Bell and Shaz Ahmed in the Blackhall team at home to Normanby Hall.
