A REVAMP is planned for an east Durham community centre, thanks to a £5,000 grant.
The centre in Station Town, near Peterlee, will be redecorated and fitted with a kitchen and soft furnishings.
The overhaul, funded with a grant from the County Durham Foundation, is expected to take two months.
June Kitching, centre co-ordinator, said: "There are few resources where residents of Station Town can enjoy social activities.
"Once refurbished, the centre should prove to be an important focal point for the village's social life."
The site is presently used for keep fit classes, badminton, five-a-side football, baseketball and netball.
After the revamp, it will also cater for social functions and can hold 170 people.
