FORMER Boro stars have lent their support to a community football tournament expected to attract more than 60 teams.
Jim Platt, Terry Cochrane, Alistair Brownley and Frank Spraggon are backing the Melton five-a-side football tournament, which will be held on Guisborough's King George V playing fields.
The tournament, open to teams of ten players over the age of 16, kicks off on the evening of Monday, July 19, and runs until Friday July, 23, with the play-offs and final held on Saturday, July 24.
About 60 teams are expected to take part in the event, organised by Tees Valley Leisure, and try to win prize money of £1,200.
Former Boro keeper Jim Platt, who will present the trophy to the winning team, said: "The tournament is a great idea and it should be a fantastic community event.
"It will give local footballers the opportunity to test their skills and have some fun at the same time, especially after watching Euro 2004."
Organiser Christine Crawley, manager of Guisborough Pool and Loftus Leisure Centre, said: "We're planning a festival atmosphere for all the family, with bouncy castles and fun sessions at Guisborough Pool, which is on the same site as the venue for the tournament.
