HUNDREDS of workers will mount a fresh demonstration today to warn of the erosion of manufacturing jobs.
The protest, in Manchester, is aimed at highlighting the effect on the North of cuts in manufacturing.
Workers from companies including BAE Systems, Vauxhall, Jaguar and Shell will take part in a march and rally, which will be addressed by Derek Simpson, general secretary of Amicus.
Mr Simpson said: "The Government has responded to some of the calls by announcing a review of UK procurement procedures, a ten-year plan to boost science and innovation and the expansion of apprenticeships to school-age children and people over 25, but these things are the equivalent of rearranging the deckchairs in the Titanic, just window dressing if the core problems aren't addressed."
Amicus is calling for urgent action to safeguard jobs, including greater employment protection, increased manufacturing investment and policies that favour UK companies when contracts are being awarded.
A survey of redundant manufacturing workers by Amicus found that 61 per cent of people were still out of work twelve months later.
