SAFETY measures are being considered to reduce accidents on a North-East road.
Councillors will decide on recommendations following a consultancy report and advice from their engineers.
While consultancy group Faber Mounsell did not include a 50mph limit in its report on the A171 Teesside to Whitby road, council safety officials and councillors are calling for a 50mph limit from Birk Brow to just east of the Smeathorns Road junction.
Other elements of the proposed £132,000 package include barriers and guardrails, high friction surfacing, warning signs and rumble strips.
It is proposed to create 400 metres of double white lines east of the Jolly Sailor pub; to increase the width of the A171 at the Liverton Road junction and to provide a right-turn and safety barrier.
It also includes the creation of a right-turn and rumble strips at the Smeathorns junction, with rumble strips on the approach to the Stanghow Road and Smeathorns junctions.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council officials are asking members to consider approving traffic islands at the Stanghow Road junction and turning the eastern exit of the Danby Road junction to one-way only.
In a report to be considered tomorrow, officers said the measures would reduce accidents.
