PARISH councillors want electricity company NEDL to put 11,000-volt lines underground, instead of overhead after six months of power failures.
NEDL wants to replace 3,130 metres of overhead line with an 11,000 volt line on wooden poles from Commondale Intake to Castleton Quarries, in the North York Moors National Park.
But Danby Group parish council told the national park's planning committee, which is due to make a decision on the application on Thursday, that it objects to the plan and wants all power lines to be put underground.
National park planners, who are recommending approval of the scheme, say an archaeological survey should be carried out because the area is a scheduled ancient monument site.
Chief planning officer Val Dilcock said that while power lines should take the least intrusive route, the proposed overhead scheme, due to the archaeological implications, will be the least intrusive, rather than putting the lines underground and disturbing the archaeology of the area.
She said that the new overhead lines should help to solve the power supply problems in the Danby area.
NEDL is set to get approval to put up a 11,000 volt overhead line across 5,560 metres of moorland from Charltons to Commondale.
National park planners are also want an archaeological survey for that site.
