SOME of the North's best cyclists took part in the first Bannatyne's Cycle Road Race yesterday.
The 80-mile race starting from Bannatyne's gym, in Haughton Road, Darlington, was won by Martin Ford, from Wakefield.
Among the 50 competitors was former national champion Matt Stephens and current national masters champion John Charlesworth. Rick King, from Darlington, was riding for the Bannatyne's team.
The course involved a seven-and-a-half lap circuit of Darlington and surrounding area covering Sadberge, Bishopton and Great Stainton.
