Federation Special Durham Senior League: All six matches produced outright results. A first defeat for the current champions for over a year and a hat-trick dominate the headlines.

Horden struggled from the start at Burnmoor, losing Stephen McCoy to the third delivery of the game. Adrian Hedley managed 41 but when he departed at 64 for five wickets, the end was in sight.

Ian Conn's tidy 15-over spell produced 4-27 and with Stephen Edwards the only other Horden player to manage double figures, they were all out for just 89.

Burnmoor's cautious reply was firmed up when Barry Dews and Neil Young added 50 together and there were few problems posed in the six-wicket win.

For the second Saturday running, Eppleton demolished their opponents' batting. This time it was Seaham Harbour who were on the receiving end.

Shaun Birbeck tormented the Harbour batting when only Martin Gill registered any runs. His 23 along with six extras made up Seaham's paltry 29.

Birbeck's 7.3 overs produced the startling figures of 8-12, including a hat-trick. In reply, Eppleton's formality required just 6.5 overs to end Seaham's torment.

Hetton Lyons remain six points ahead at the top as a result of their convincing nine-wicket win at Durham City. The home side were unable to cope with the pace of Gary Adey and spin of Ian Male who both collected four wickets.

Chasing 107 to win was straightforward when Gerry Strydom and Marc Hopkinson (31) took the Lyons to well within sight of victory before being split.

South Shields were worthy winners in the derby match with Whitburn. Matthew Muchall's early bowling was the initial inspiration as Whitburn tumbled to 42 for six. There was a slight reprieve when Paul Cook hit an unbeaten 43 and Shields were left to chase 103 to win.

They were never in trouble. John Dunn (57) and Ray McRae added 56 for the first wicket and eventually the eight-wicket win came easily.

Boldon were hard-pressed at South Hetton after the home side staged a comeback. Bowlers Orlanzo Jackson (4-34) and Philip Shakespeare (3-28) had placed Boldon in a useful position by dismissing South Hetton for 139.

A steady start to the reply came via Jackson and Grant Forster (48) who added 56 for the third wicket.

Once these two were parted, Boldon lost five wickets for just 15 runs, but they had sufficient in reserve to win by two wickets.

Marsden paced their run race to perfection against Felling.

David Coulson with 72 (ten fours and a six) helped hoist Felling to 181.

Going into the final hour with the score on 94 for two wickets, Marsden needed 88 to win. Chris Mann paved the way and the opener was still there unbeaten on 86 when the six-wicket win arrived.
