PEOPLE in part of the region lead the country when it comes to voting online in libraries for their favourite read.
During this year's annual WH Smith Book Awards, more people used the computers available in North Yorkshire's 45 libraries and information centres to vote for their favourite titles than in any other local authority area.
The most votes were cast in Scarborough's newly renovated library and information centre, where almost 20 per cent of the county's votes came from.
As a result, the library will receive copies of all 40 books on the shortlist.
Councillor Carl Les said: "This is a splendid result for North Yorkshire's strategy to improve public access to modern communications through the network of computers in our library and information centres.
"I am particularly pleased with this proof that books and computers can go together, as this is something library staff have long been aware of.
"Indeed our staff are trained to advise on the best Internet sites for readers."
