MORE than 50 cars were damaged during a night of vandalism in Darlington.

Scores of residents awoke on Saturday morning to find their cars had been marked with deep scratches or had wheel trims missing.

Officers believe that someone on their way home from a night out had deliberately scratched more than 30 vehicles in Staindrop Road, Dene Grove and Orchard Road and would like to hear from anyone with information about who has caused the damage.

They would also like to hear from drivers in the Craig Street area after wheel trims went missing from about 20 cars on Friday night.

Two women were seen removing them from cars and a 20-year-old and a 24-year-old have been arrested and released on bail pending further inquiries.

But now officers would like to return the wheel trims they recovered to their rightful owners. Sergeant Graham Charman said the wheel trim incident was understood to have been a drunken prank

He said: "It's difficult, because they took all the wheel trims off some cars and just one or two off others, but anyone from that area that thinks theirs were taken should contact us."
