THE Butterwick Hospice is urging people to step out in aid of the charity by completing one of three sponsored walks in their name.

The hospice, in Bishop Auckland, is challenging people to join at least one of three events and collect sponsorship in aid of the centre which provides respite and support for patients with life threatening illnesses and their families.

Fundraiser Sylvia Stoneham said: "We rely heavily on charitable support from the communities we serve. Help us to continue offering the vital services we provide free of charge to our patients."

She is challenging people to join the following charity walks:

Mid-Summer Sunrise, June 19, trek to the summit of Blencathra, Cumbria, with overnight stay; Great North Walk, July 18, a moderate eight mile walk around Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland; By the Light of the Harvest Moon, September 25, Bowfell, Great Langdale, Lake District, with overnight stay.

The hospice also joins forces with Wear Valley District Council to hold regular shorter walks to help people improve their fitness.

The council is a partner with The Northern Echo, Durham Dales PCT and Northumbrian Water in the Chance To Live campaign which promotes healthier lifestyles including regular exercise.

For details of any of the walks contact Sylvia Stoneham on (01388) 603003.
