SCHOOLS across Darlington have been targeted by vandals and burglars over the half- term break.
Caretakers at schools returned to work yesterday after the holiday to discover broken windows and intruders had been inside the premises.
Windows were smashed at Springfield Primary School, North Road Primary and Harrowgate Hill Junior School.
At Alderman Leach Primary School, in Bates Avenue, someone burgled the premises, taking a quantity of sports equipment by gaining access through the roof.
At Holy Family Primary School, in Prior Street, Cockerton, someone managed to get into the building through a window, which is 15ft above the ground. Nothing was taken but police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen someone breaking into the building, as they would have needed a ladder or other equipment.
At Red Hall Primary, 40 lengths of railing have been taken from the fence at the school, worth about £100.
Sergeant Graham Charman said officers hope someone would have seen the thief removing them and hope someone will contact police with details on (01325) 467681.
