TWO community projects have benefited from grants awarded by Ferryhill Town Council.
The Mayor of Ferryhill, Councillor Christine Woods, presented cheques to Sedgefield Borough Council's Splash play scheme and Mainsforth and District Community Association.
Sedgefield borough's summer holiday scheme, known as Splash, was given £775 towards activities, including trips, splash active play schemes, and sports coaching.
Internet Games and a chill- out zone are new this year, along with the Smart Bus, which has laptops with Internet, play equipment, TV and video, computer games and refreshment facilities.
Pool competitions, arts workshops and swimming courses will also feature, along with outdoor activities, indoor climbing and snorkelling.
Coun Woods also presented a cheque for £800 to Emma Jones, of Mainsforth and District Community Association.
The money will go towards efforts to refurbish Mains- forth Community Centre, which was a hive of activity in the years shortly before and after the Second World War, but has fallen into disrepair.
