A CAMPAIGN to tackle the health dangers of obesity in children is proving a success.
Since its launch six months ago, more than 600 youngsters have signed up for activities through the Kidzpower and Teen Spirit projects in Sunderland.
Kidzpower offers workouts on gym equipment designed for children.
It is part of the £54m Back on the Map (BotM) regeneration campaign for the deprived areas of Hendon and the east end of the city.
The project is running sessions for children aged six to 16 at the Raich Carter Sports Centre in Hendon.
Centre manager Craig Jobson said: "Children are now becoming more aware that exercise is an important part of life. With Kidzpower and Teen Spirit sessions, they have a fun way of keeping fit and healthy."
