MEMBERS of the emergency services have been honoured for their years of life-saving.
Certificates for 20 years of service were presented to 63 members of the Tees, East and North Yorkshire Ambulance Service at a ceremony at York racecourse.
Another 17 received 30-year awards and other commendations were presented to those who attended the Great Heck rail crash. The awards were presented by the deputy for the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Air Commodore Bill Gambold.
Chief executive Jayne Barnes said the staff had more than 2,000 years of service between them and told them: "It takes a special kind of person to do your job. It's a tough exacting job, calling for a high degree of professional skill, dedication, a cool head, and, at times, a great deal of courage.
