A TEENAGE girl was raped as she lay in her bed in her flat, a court heard yesterday.
The 16-year-old girl said Brendan Baldwin and a friend came into her flat late at night, apparently drunk.
Durham Crown Court was told the other youth left, but 18-year-old Mr Baldwin fell asleep at the bottom of the bed.
Julian Smith, prosecuting, said the girl had tried but failed to wake him to tell him to leave so she could go to bed.
Mr Smith told the court that when the girl did go to bed, Mr Baldwin climbed in next to her and raped her.
Mr Smith said that after the attack she told Mr Baldwin to leave and, although she made no immediate complaint, she later told her grandmother, and the police became involved.
Mr Smith said initially the girl told officers she did not want to pursue a complaint, but Mr Baldwin was arrested.
In her interview with police, a tape of which was played to the court, the alleged victim told the court she said "No" at least four times during the alleged rape.
Mr Baldwin, of Cross Street, Easington Colliery, east Durham, denies rape.
The trial continues today.
